The programme will feature:
The Vertical Offshore Reference Frames project by Jonathan Iliffe
Jonathan will talk about the VORF project that has been carried out in collaboration with the UKHO, in which datum models have been developed around the British Isles for Chart Datum and other tidal surfaces, enabling increased use of satellite systems for bathymetric reduction. He will discuss the methodology that was used to create the models, and talk about the future prospects for the further development of these in the UK and around the world.
High Resolution Surveys on the Thames by Jean-Philippe Cheminade (Geodesea) and Andy Stanley (MMT)
The speakers will discuss surveying the ThamesuUsingvVessel-mounted integrated multibeam, Llser and photography systems. Multibeam echo sounders (MBES) have been available for a number of years, developed and used primarily to support planning and construction surveys within the Oil & Gas and Renewable energy sectors and for Safety of Navigation Surveying in the Ports and Inshore sectors.
Developments in the associated technology, particularly the availability of higher frequency systems, have meant that high resolution surveys (HRMBES) can provide valuable support for marine and civil engineers in the design, monitoring and construction phases of existing or new marine assets.
This presentation looks at the uses of HRMBES to facilitate underwater surveys, monitoring, design and construction through the use of highly accurate three dimensional cloud point data and images of underwater features and structures. The presentation will also look at how LiDAR and georeferenced photography can be integrated with HRMBES in order to deliver a comprehensive above and below water survey of a given asset.
The presentation will be animated with examples from recent projects and some of the challenges we face with surveying in Central London.
